Call for Mini-Plenary Sessions, Workshops and Clinical Quick Hits

The PHM 2018 Planning Committee invites all interested parties to submit a mini-plenary session, workshop or clinical quick hits proposal for the Pediatric Hospital Medicine 2018 (PHM 2018) conference in Atlanta. Please review the entirety of this call for content to determine which type of submission you would like to complete. Submissions must be completed online by Friday, October 6, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. ET. All submissions will be reviewed and considered for presentation at PHM 2018.

Various categories will be considered for selection. Categories include: Behavioral Health, the Business of Hospital Medicine, Clinical, Complex Care, Community Hospital, Education, Global Health, Health IT/Informatics, Med-Peds, Mentorship, Newborn Medicine, Patient Experience, Patient Safety, Professional Development/Leadership Skills, Physician Wellness, Practice Management, Quality Improvement, Research, and Trainee/Early Career.

Mini-Plenary Sessions:
Mini-Plenary Sessions are 75 minute sessions (60-minute presentation & 15 minutes Q&A) and take place throughout PHM.

Criteria for Mini-Plenary Session selection:

  1. A topic that is timely and important for the intended audience
  2. Learning objectives that are clear and appropriate
  3. Audience engagement strategies

Please note the following before submitting a presentation proposal:

  • Presentations will be allotted a maximum of 75 minutes for presentation.
  • Presentations should be didactic in nature with audience engagement that can be accomplished in a theater-style setting.
  • Audience size will range from 130 - 200.

Workshops:
Workshops at PHM 2018 are presented in dedicated workshop tracks allowing for interactive-style sessions. Workshops address innovative ideas, learner-centered knowledge gaps and needs. Workshops take place throughout PHM.

Criteria for Workshop selection:

  1. A topic that is timely and important for the intended audience
  2. Learning objectives that are clear and appropriate
  3. Presentation format, outline and audience engagement strategies

Please note the following before submitting a workshop proposal:

  • Workshop submissions will be considered for both 75-minute and 120-minute formats. Please indicate if your workshop submission can be completed within a 75-minute timeframe in your submission.
  • Workshops will be set with round tables to encourage interactive engagement.
  • Intended audience size will be between 50-120.
  • Workshop proposals will have only one lead faculty member.

Clinical Quick Hits:
Clinical Quick Hits are 35-minute "rapid fire" talks on a clinical entity, focused on clinical knowledge, "latest and greatest" updates or evolution in clinical practice in one area. Clinical Quick Hits take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Criteria for Clinical Quick Hits Selection:

  1. Learning objectives that are clear and appropriate
  2. Actionable take-home points
  3. Audience engagement strategies

Please note the following before submitting a clinical quick hits proposal:

  • The session is limited to 35 minutes
  • Lecture-style classroom seating will be available
  • Intended audience size is 100-150

Submission Forms

Please note the following before submitting a proposal:

  • Mini-plenary sessions will be allotted a maximum of 75 minutes for presentation and should be didactic.
  • Workshops will be allotted either a 75-minute or 120-minute timeframe for presentation and should be engaging and interactive.
  • Clinical Quick Hits will be allotted a maximum of 35 minutes for presentation and should be didactic.
  • All lead faculty will receive complimentary registration. PHM staff will register the lead faculty member automatically.
  • All assistant faculty members/workshop facilitators must be registered for the meeting to participate/facilitate in their sessions. Please communicate this information to each additional person for your workshop. Registration should be completed by the individual as soon as possible.
  • Mini-plenary sessions and workshops could be scheduled throughout the duration of the conference, July 19-22, 2018. Please do not submit a proposal unless you are able to appear on any of the four days of the conference.
  • We recognize that your submission may fit into more than one category and the planning committee will address that when reviewing your complete submission.
  • All proposals must be completed and submitted by Friday, October 6 2017 at 5:00 p.m. ET. No extensions to this deadline will be granted.
  • Acceptance notifications will be sent in late December 2017.
